First Flipgrid!

Image
Flipgrid is a tool where students record video responses to a video I create for them.  Students can choose to make their fancy and even cover up their face or pixelate it.  Students recently created videos answering three questions I asked in a prompt video.  Here are my questions, and students' responses: By the way, I asked them their names, if they were American, and if they also liked cats. Fun with Nearpod and Quizlet Live!

Image
We've been using Nearpod a lot in our hybrid lessons.  Here are some snippets of what we've been doing: Period 3 have chosen their avatars and they are ready to play Time to Climb, a game where they climb up the hill every time they answer a question correctly! The Time to Climb leaderboard and the avatars making their way up the hill.  Watch them climb up the hill below: Students answer a question in French about where they are from. Students submit drawings for the word "Chantez !" (Sing!). Mlle Decker's pick for the best interpretation of "Je ne sais pas" (I don't know). Nearpod's not the only tool we've been using...we also played Quizlet Live today!  Every student gets assigned an animal in French, then they try to answer twelve vocabulary questions correctly, all in a row.  One wrong answer, and they have to start over!  Here it is in action: If you'd like to receive more updates from Mlle Decker's classroom, subscribe by email

Les normes

Image
Students recently worked together to come up with norms for French class.  A norm is something you agree to do on a regular basis to reach your goals as a group.  After reflecting on their goals for language learning, students generated a list of norms in groups, then shared them out either on a virtual whiteboard or on Socrative.  The class then voted on their favorite norms either by using the vote feature in Socrative or by stamping their favorite norms on the whiteboard.  Here's a peek at the brainstorming process: Finally, after reviewing all the submissions, these four norms were selected as the most popular for the class to strive for: Travaillez dur et faites un effort !  ~  Work hard and make an effort! Écoutez et faites attention !  ~  Listen and pay attention! Participez et parlez français !  ~  Participate and speak French! Pratiquez à la maison !  ~  Practice at home!
